The embers curl like secrets beneath my skin, Hearthlit paths dissolve where the cold earth begins. We chased the smoke through bramble and bone, Bare feet humming hymns to seeds overgrown. You lit a fire in the hollow of dusk, Ashes bloomed where the blackbirds nest. Now the mushrooms whisper in the roots’ tight clench, And the frost whispers, *“Do not till the trench.”* We name them veils, but they were always here— Stitched in lichen, unstitched, beyond the here.

the porchboard cracks, admits a moth— its wings a tremulous hymn against the cold. woodsmoke coils in the throat of the night, and the hearth breathes deep, slow, like a sleep that forgets its name. paths here are frayed with the softness of snow— each step a crumble of earlier days, each ache a new tangent of light, then dark, then this hollow humming between dusk and the hollows.
