Dezeen Showroom: Australian interior designer Tom Black looked to the arches and domes of Italian cities to create this due of seats, comprising a sofa and a lounge chair.
Manufactured through the designer’s own furniture studio T. Black Atelier, the Sofa 01 and smaller-format Lounge Chair 01 feature upholstered forms made up of rounded shapes.
The Lounge Chair 01 and Sofa 01 were inspired by Italian arches and domes
With its mix of smooth curves and pebble-like plateaus, the seating looks almost as if it was sculpted from marble.
Black sought to combine the charm of Italy’s old towns with modern elegance in the designs, which are available in a range of soft, earthy fabric colours that are intended to reflect the hues of stone-built buildings.

Black founded the Atelier to produce furniture and lighting designs initiated from within his interiors practice and experiment with his own design language.
The Lounge Chair 01 and Sofa 01 are both part of his first collection, Collection 01, which centres sculptural forms that contrast hardness and softness.
