Garden fairies sneak: Quick notes

Garden fairies here!

We are garden fairies and we thought we’d sneak in a post here before Carol takes back the keyboard to write a Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day post in a few days.

And you dear readers should be grateful for us doing so because after all it is spring and we are garden fairies and we are very busy.

Busy doing what, you ask? Busy doing flowery things like getting some Viola soraria ‘Freckles’ to self-sow in the garden.

So far, we, as in primarily Seedy and Soddy, have gotten ‘Freckles’ to grow in the lawn, though right in the middle of a triangle of dandelions.

We need Carol to very carefully dig those dandelions out so that ‘Freckles’ can grow without being crowded out. What we do NOT need is for Carol to spray those particular dandelions with that Dandelion Doom spray she wrote about in her weekly newsletters.

We are garden fairies and we do not think violets would take kindly to having that iron chelate liquid sprayed all over them!

Speaking of violets, or rather drawing your attention back to violets, we also got another ‘Freckles’ to show up in the bed across from the bed where Carol planted the first ‘Freckles’ a couple of years ago. It’s blooming now, but that original plant isn’t blooming, yet.

Never fear, Hortense and Honoria are working on getting it to bloom, too.

However, please be patient! Not every bloom opens on the same day! And we are garden fairies. We have many other issues, problems, and mysteries to solve.

Yes, mysteries! We are all also working on solving the “Great Mystery of What Happened to the Virginia Bluebells.” We have not seen them come up yet. In past years, they were up and blooming just fine by mid-April, but this year, they are not. They are missing, AWOL, not there.

It’s a mystery what happened to them!

Ol’ Rainbow Tanglefly has warned us all to the fear the worst, that they have just disappeared and will not return, but that hasn’t stopped Deema Mae Flowerweaver from getting out her magnifying glass, putting on a Sherlock Holmes style hat—which is called a deerstalker hat—and heading out each morning to look for any signs of Virginia bluebells.

So far, all she has found is Spanish bluebells which are completely not Virginia bluebells! Not even close to the same!

Side note! We sure hope Carol continues to judiciously, expeditiously, and without remorse deadhead those Spanish bluebells beause if she doesn’t, then not even Seedy and Soddy will be able keep them from self-sowing.

Speaking of self-sowing, we are garden fairies. When you read “self-sowing” please do not think that means the plants did that sowing all on their own. We are garden fairies! What do you think we do all day? We sow seeds for flowers!

Quite rightly and correctly, those ‘Freckles’ violets were fairy-sown. Repeat after us: Fairy-Sown. That is the correct and right term for self-sown. However, as we often have to remind you, we are garden fairies! We know we can’t get people, even Carol, to change their ways so we’ll accept the term “self-sown” as long as you promise that in your mind you’ll think of it as “fairy-sown.”

We are busy garden fairies, so that is all we have to report for today.

P. S.

We have noticed that sometimes when Carol writes her own posts, like those about spinstercore gardening—whatever that is—she is also posting them on her Substack in a separate section called Writings From My Blog. However, she never puts one of our posts on her precious Substack. Why is that? We need dear readers to clamor for our posts to be put on Substack too, maybe in a special section called “Garden Fairies Speak Truth.” So please help us out and clamor on!

A short mention of Garden fairies sneak helps readers follow the flow.

Garden fairies sneak comes up here to connect ideas for clarity.
