Samsung speaker abstract: Quick notes
As the annual CES tech fair kicks off in Las Vegas, Samsung has launched a minimalist speaker by French designer Erwan Bouroullec, distinguished by a narrow, arched body that’s not much thicker than a picture frame.
The wireless speaker, called Music Studio 5, squeezes a four-inch woofer and dual tweeters into its minimalist shell, offering the sound of a chunkier model without the visual heft.

Bouroullec’s aim was to create a design that won’t be “forgotten the moment the sound stops”, but instead resembles an abstract sculpture that enhances an interior even when not in use.
“Even in silence, they will blend naturally into everyday life,” he said in a video shown during Samsung’s CES keynote. “Their quiet presence shapes the atmosphere around you.”

For the speaker’s gently rounded body, rendered entirely in either black or white, the designer looked to vinyl records, subwoofers and music notes in a bid to capture the essential shape of sound itself.
“What is the shape of sound? You don’t see it, of course, but it’s always there, giving a place, a sense of being, shaping the way you feel,” he said. “With Music Studio…I wanted to give a form to this feeling.”

For enhanced audio quality, Music Studio 5 comes with a built-in waveguide for clear, balanced sound and Samsung’s AI-powered dynamic bass control, which deepens low frequencies without distortion.
Bouroullec also designed a bigger, more traditional speaker box with the same minimalist circle and dot design, which was unveiled at CES.
Its flattened profile is not much thicker than a picture frame
Called Music Studio 7, it delivers immersive spatial audio through left, front, right and top-firing speakers and can be used on its own or paired with additional units and Samsung TVs.
The newly launched Music Studio series marks Samsung’s latest attempt at making less intrusive speakers that blend into the home, following 2024’s Music Frame, which doubles as an electronic picture frame.

Other notable products unveiled at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) so far include Punkt’s privacy-focused smartphone, which promises enhanced data security on a subscription basis.
Last year, the show prominently featured cute robots.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is on in Las Vegas, USA from 6 to 9 January 2026. See Dezeen Events Guide for an up-to-date list of architecture and design events taking place around the world.
