Dezeen Showroom: the following rugs and materials recently listed on Dezeen Showroom aim to bring textural and aesthetic richness to interior spaces.
As well as adding visual interest, soft furnishings can improve the acoustics and heat retention of rooms.
Designers, manufacturers and brands are opting to utilise both contemporary and traditional means of fabricating materials, from printing patterns onto fabrics digitally to using restored 20th-century looms.
The following pieces are made from a spectrum of different fibres, from conventional natural ones like wool and silk to synthetics, including vinyl.

Tartan Shuttle Weave rugs by Cicil
US brand Cicil’s Tartan Shuttle Weave rugs feature a graphic, oversized tartan pattern and were grafted on looms made from the mid-1990s.
Three colourways are available – Daylight, Dusk, Twilight – all of which are made in North Carolina out of locally-sourced wool on restored machines dating from the 1950s.

Light Collection textiles by Momentum Textiles and Wallcovering
Being easy to clean and visually stimulating were the main factors that material brand Momentum Textiles and Wallcovering considered when creating its Light Collection textiles.
Designed specifically for use in healthcare environments, the textiles can be used for various applications, and users can choose from nine patterns and multiple colours.

Grounded rugs by Plesner Patterns and InHouse Group
Norwegian studio Plesner Patterns looked to nature when devising this collection of 100 per cent wool rugs.
Grounded rugs come in five patterns – Wild Meadow (green or multicoloured), Forest Ground, Leaf Play and Leaf Nature – and come in two size formats.

US brand HBF Textiles has launched a textile collection that encompasses bouclé, velvet, suede and leather textures.
The Feel & Form collection can be used for a myriad of upholstery purposes and comes in various rich jewel tones.

Erased Heritage rug collection by Jan Kath
German brand Jan Kath’s Erased Heritage rug collection contains the Bidjar Highgate Enjoy rug, comprising a traditional woollen base overlaid with silken scribbles.
The brand aimed to “surprise, unsettle and invite reflection” through the rug, combining traditional Persian stylings with contemporary motifs.

Defined Momentum fabrics and wallpapers by Harlequin
British brand Harlequin has released a range of fabrics named Defined Momentum that are decorated with stimulating patterns that reference nature.
The series includes Monolith, Molten and Sedimentary, which all see matt areas interspersed with shinier detailing.

Strata collection by John Pawson for Teixidors
Spanish brand Teixidors collaborated with designer John Pawson on this series of stone-informed throws and cushions, made from a combination of Merino wool and cashmere.
The Strata collection comes in two minimalist colourways – beige Neutral and pink-hued Rose – which are both decorated with raised linear motifs that recall the lines seen in building facades.

Talk Talk rugs by Jaime Hayon for Nanimarquina
These playful face-shaped rugs are the result of a collaboration between Spanish rug brand Nanimarquina and designer Jaime Hayon.
Talk Talk rugs take the form of human faces in profile, available in various sizes and colours, all made from New Zealand wool.
