Jaguar Land Rover chief creative officer Gerry McGovern has reportedly departed the company a year after the unveiling of the radical Type 00 concept car that captured global attention.
British automotive designer McGovern was reportedly asked to leave the company on Monday after 21 years at the brand, reported Autocar and Autocar India.
He departs within months of Jaguar Land Rover appointing PB Balaji as chief executive.

One of the world’s leading car designers, McGovern recently oversaw the controversial rebranding of Jaguar, which aimed to mark a “complete reset” for the brand.
Details of McGovern’s departure are unknown and Jaguar Land Rover declined to comment on his position at the company. At the time of writing, he was still listed as chief creative officer on the Jaguar Land Rover website.

McGovern was the driving force behind the radical Type 00 concept car, which was created to set the tone of the brand’s new philosophy.
“Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy,” McGovern said at the launch. “It has an unmistakable presence. This is the result of brave, unconstrained creative thinking, and unwavering determination.”
“It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavour.”
The Type 00 was unveiled late last year
Last night Jaguar celebrated its 90th birthday by displaying its first model, the SS Jaguar and the Type 00 in red, outside the David Chipperfield Architects-designed Chancery Rosewood hotel in London (pictured top).
While at Jaguar Land Rover, McGovern was also responsible for rejuvenating the Defender brand along with the design of multiple Range Rovers include the Evoque model.
Before joining Jaguar Land Rover, McGovern worked at Ford and Chrysler. He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to car design in 2020.
