Ball glass lights: Quick notes

Dezeen Showroom: Danish brand Frandsen has added a table lamp and a floor lamp to its Ball lighting range, originally designed by brand founder Benny Frandsen.

The Ball Glass Table and Ball Glass Floor both echo the design of the now-iconic 1968 pendant lamp — a near-complete metal sphere with a circular opening at the bottom for the bulb to shine through.

The Ball Glass Table and Ball Glass Floor lamps are an evolution of a design from the 1960s

Over the years, the design has been reinterpreted in glass, and that continues with the two new lamps, which feature glossy opaque glass coloured either pale Sand Grey or warm Amber.

To heighten the connection to the original design and provide an alluring material contrast, there is a subtle metal top element with bold circular cut-outs.

“With Ball Glass, we wanted to honour the spirit of Benny Frandsen’s original design while introducing new materiality and proportions,” said Frandsen.

“The result is a calm, refined lighting series that preserves the essence of Ball yet allows it to evolve into modern living spaces.”

Fransden’s Ball lighting series now includes over a dozen designs, spanning materials from metal to glass to wood and bringing contemporary finishing to a mid-century icon.
