Day table decor: a concise orientation before we get practical.
Day table decor: Quick notes
// blue and white napkin rings //
Did your mother ever make your Valentine’s Day card holder by cutting up the cereal box?
Mine did.
If I squint, I can almost see her in the middle of the kitchen taking out the wax paper liner and taping the box closed, cutting a hole in the top and covering it with wrapping paper and ribbon.
I’d take it to school and bring it home bursting at the seams with princess valentines and lollipops. At the risk of stating the obvious? It was amazing.
I’ve been in love with Valentine’s Day ever since.
If you want to add a few hearts to your home, I wanted to share a little Valentine’s Day decorating inspiration and some think outside the box decor ideas.
Like this.
See that little mini vase?
It’s a napkin ring.
Here are 7 easy Valentine’s Day table decor ideas.

1. Add candles
I kind of feel bad sharing this one because we may or may not have discussed it five zillion times, so I added it first to get it over with.
These candles?
I’ve used them for Thanksgiving and birthdays and Christmas and New Year’s and Pokeno and Bunko and Book club.
And now?
They’ve showed up again.
This time they are making the Valentine’s Day table so much cuter.
The candles fit into regular candle holders like these and you can adjust the flicker and they really look so real.
You can see the candles here.

2. Add a mini pillow
A long time ago, someone bought me a hooked mini pillow that said Merry Christmas.
I love that pillow.
And I figured out that all I need to decorate with for each holiday is a mini pillow. It’s easy to store, and it adds a little pop to all my regular pillows.
So now I have a mini pillow collection, including this Valentine’s heart pillow.
You can see it here.

3. Fill a mailbox with conversation hearts
I bought a big bag of conversation hearts to fill up these mailboxes.
And do you know what I discovered?
Conversation hearts have gotten a lot sassier than I remembered.
These mailboxes are the cutest. I’m also going to write a sweet note for each of my friends and put them in the mailboxes with the hearts, too.
I got the mailboxes at Walmart and they are under $1.50 each.
You can see them here.

4. Add straws to your tulips
I’ve shared this tip before, but as I was arranging the tulips in this vase? I thought to myself that I should share it again.
These tulips are amazing and they look super cute, but they are a little short for a tall vase like this.
To fix it?
I added straws to the end of each of the tulips. Then you can bend them and twist them and drape them over the side and they look even realer than before.
You can see the entire straw tip here.

5. Use napkin rings as mini vases
When I was setting up this table, I needed low vases for the pink flowers.
I’d already added hydrangeas to larger milk glass vases, but I wanted to vary the heights of the flowers on the table.
I didn’r really have any small vases and then I remembered these blue and white napkin rings that I had.
Don’t they look like vases? The flowers are faux so I didn’t need any water.
You can see the napkin rings here.

6. Decorate with block prints
You know my love affair with block prints.
There’s just something about a block print that just fancies up a table.
I added this block print runner and these block print placemats and even these block print paper napkins.
You can see an entire post I wrote about decorating with block prints.

7. Create a Valentine’s Day playlist
Do you have a Valentine’s Day playlist already?
It’s perfect for parties or when you have friends over.
If you don’t have one?
I created a Valentine’s Day playlist for all of us here.

If you aren’t planning on decorating for Valentine’s Day and you stuck with me through the entire post?
I have some Valentine’s stories to share.
Wishing you an early Valentine’s Day. If you had a decorated cereal box and we were in class together? I’d send you a Valentine that said:
“Life without you is like a broken pencil—totally pointless.” 🙂
