Continuing the dialogue between The Rug Company and the Winch Design studio, the new Surface & Stillness rug collection presents a refined study of natural forms through texture and tone.

This collection draws upon the sculptural gestures of the natural world including tidelines, wind patterns, and shifting dunes, all reimagined as abstract topographies underfoot. Wool, silk and natural hemp are hand knotted to evoke a quiet contrast: matte and sheen, softness and structure, earth and air. The interplay of these fibers captures a dynamic stillness where form is shaped by time and texture tells the story.

“This collection is an ode to nature’s geometry, where the hidden patterns of leaves, stones and water are reimagined as texture underfoot,” said Selina McCabe, Winch Design director. “Each rug captures the earth’s rhythms, translating organic form into soft, tactile surfaces that invite touch and contemplation. It is a dialogue between structure and spontaneity, where the quiet mathematics of the natural world is traced in every thread.”

Established in London in 1997, Christopher and Suzanne Sharp founded The Rug Company on a belief that true luxury lies in craftsmanship, creativity and integrity. What began as a single studio has evolved into an internationally recognized design house, known for contemporary handmade rugs woven by master artisans in Nepal using time-honored techniques.

Designer Thomas Pheasant has partnered with Ben Soleimani to unveil two new rug collections: Maze and Museum.

The Thomas Pheasant Collection for Ben Soleimani is inspired by the beauty of European museums and historic gardens. Set to launch this month, the collection reflects Pheasant’s signature refined aesthetic, with a blend of rich textures, neutral palettes and architectural grid forms.

Soleimani and Pheasant have long shared a mutual admiration for each other’s craft. The Thomas Pheasant Collection for Ben Soleimani marks the Soleimani brand’s first foray into designer collaborations.

“Thomas is a true artist, his taste impeccable. He was always my first choice for the launch of our exclusive designer collections. We share similar values and aesthetics. He is a legend,” said Soleimani.

Pheasant’s creative process is deeply rooted in his appreciation for art and nature. The collection captures a sense of balance and movement through directional textures, sophisticated neutrals and subtle hints of green and blue.

“Our goal was to create something truly noteworthy,” said Pheasant. “These rugs are an extension of my design philosophy—timeless, thoughtfully composed and able to live beautifully within a space.”

The two new collections feature five styles – Contour and Composition in the Museum Collection and Labyrinth, Ballue and Villandry in the Maze Collection.

The collections are hand-knotted in premium New Zealand wool by artisans.

This collaboration marks a seamless fusion of Pheasant’s artistic vision and Soleimani’s expertise in rug craftsmanship.

Designtex introduces a debut collaboration that fuses its expertise in contract textiles with the creative vision of nanimarquina.

This partnership reflects a shared belief in “the enduring beauty of the imperfect and the handcrafted,” the companies said.

Nanimarquina is an international benchmark in contemporary rug design and brings its deep respect for craft and nuance. Designtex extends that vision, engineering high performance textiles to capture this beauty.

The result is Join and Mending, a study in rhythm, repair and restraint, textiles conceived as both function and feeling.

”As designers, we have been huge fans of nanimarquina—their dedication to craftsmanship and celebration of material is perhaps not always paramount in commercial materials,” said Catherine Stowell, Designtex VP of Design. “This collaboration gave us the challenge of being able to translate those high-level craft cues into Join and Mending.”

“We wanted to capture nanimarquina’s material sensibility in durable constructions that would make these textiles especially useful in commercial settings,” she continued. “We did that by using performance yarns and intentionally imbedding imperfections into the weaving process.”

Mending is a high-performance textile that celebrates the quiet beauty of visible repair, inspired by the humble act of stitching as a way to hold things together. Structured as a grid, its woven patch motif echoes handwork—intentionally imperfect and deeply human, according to the company.

With subtle irregularities and a softened palette, Mending speaks to a growing desire for simplicity, tactility, and things that endure.

“When we see something hand-sewn, something irregular, we understand it,” said designer Nani Marquina, who founded her namesake design studio in 1987. “We connect to it. Maybe we don’t need to fix everything; maybe we just need to hold it together.”

This spirit of patient craftsmanship defined the collaboration process.

“Designtex was so comfortable with taking the time to explore every direction and with letting things evolve,” she said. “That’s rare, and it allowed us to keep pushing to get it right.”

Reminiscent of piano keys, the pattern of Join is slightly irregular, softly structured and always in motion. A recurring language in Marquina’s work, the motion forms a quiet rhythm—not quite perfect, not quite predictable, but inherently harmonious.

A study in rhythm and restraint, drawn for balance and woven for outdoor use, Join brings understated texture to both natural and architectural spaces, finding beauty in the balance of repetition and variation.

Known for its mastery of nuanced color transitions, the atelier explores Ombre as both a technique and a narrative, where tones shift with quiet precision and create a sense of depth, light, and atmosphere.

Vista draws its spirit from natural and celestial vistas, where colors never remain static but instead shift with a quiet fluidity. The deepening tones of dusk as they dissolve into night, the gentle ascent of mist that softens the horizon, the delicate blush that lingers at sunset and the layered greens of forest canopies all find subtle expression within these rugs.

Rather than presenting color in fixed blocks or rigid patterns, the designs are alive with gradation. Shades bleed into one another with painterly precision, creating depth that feels both expansive and intimate.

According to the company, this new collection ultimately redefines what a rug can be, including the perfect execution of a space in itself, an interplay of color, light and texture that shifts with its surroundings.
