Amalfi Coast Italian Inspired Table Setting

Looking for ideas for an Italian inspired table setting? Here’s one I created using this tablecloth from the Amalfi Coast.

Before I even start this post, I have an exciting announcement.

OUR SON, DENTON, JUST GOT ENGAGED.

I am going to do an entire post on the sweetest proposal on the planet (that included a 10 point powerpoint on why his fiancée should marry him) and the celebration that followed.

Today is really about this tablecloth my mother brought me back from Italy, but my heart was so full I had to SHARE!!!!!

And now?

Back to our regularly scheduled post.

Have you seen this pattern before? It’s kind of famous. It comes from the Amalfi coast, and it features the Sicilian lemon imagery from the region.

My mother and sisters went to a wedding in Italy last fall (I was invited, but I was too scared to get on a plane to go) and my mother brought me back this tablecloth.

I wasn’t sure how to decorate with it.

And then?

I came up with an idea to use it to decorate the table for Mother’s Day.

What better way to honor my mother’s gift?

Here was my vision.

Truth?

In my head, I always categorize my decorating ideas by punctuation.

Sometimes the decorating idea I have is a question mark.

Like….why did I ever start this?

Or…what do I do now?

And…yikes….what was I thinking?

Question mark ideas are the worst.

But the best kind of decorating projects?

Exclamation projects.

When the stars align.

When the universe rights itself on its axis.

And Willie Nelson croons out the Hallelujah Chorus, accompanied by an angel choir playing banjos.

And then you know that you know that you know that you have created…..

…..an exclamation point DECORATING IDEA!!!!!

As in….I can’t believe it turned out!

And….this is amazing!

Or….it’s better than I could have ever even imagined!

And I created it using these.

LEMONS.

I know, right?

Lemons.

Wonderful, yellow, springy, fresh LEMONS.

You can get them from the grocery store or you can get faux lemons like the ones I have that last all spring and summer.

You can see lemons like these here.

Here’s how I put the table together.

colorful fabric pattern featuring yellow lemons, green leaves, blue flowers, and swirling green vines on a white background. the design is vibrant and lively, with a mediterranean-inspired style.

The tablecloth

Let’s start with what started it all.

This tablecloth.

It has this Italian majolica pattern. Apparently, lemons symbolize hospitality and abundance and sunshine. This pattern is associated with the Amalfi Coast and a region called Faenza. It has swirls and floral arabesque scrolls that are meant to symbolize the architecture in the region.

My mother explained all this when she handed me the tablecloth (which made me love it even more).

So imagine my surprise when I saw that Target just released a line that matched my tablecloth.

Can you believe it?

You can see it here.

The candlesticks and faux candles

I ordered these lemon candlesticks.

Aren’t they the cutest?

They have lemons that wrap around them and a blue border on the top and bottom.

I added these faux wax candles to the candlesticks.

You can see the candlesticks here.

a potted rosemary plant sits on a colorful floral tablecloth. in the blurred background, a decorative bowl is filled with bright yellow lemons, adding a vibrant touch to the scene.

These lemon salt and pepper shakers

As soon as I saw these, I knew I had to have them.

I really love lemons, but I’d never seen a salt and pepper shaker like this.

And the tray is a leaf.

They are perfect with the Amalfi Coast tablecloth.

You can see the salt and pepper shakers here.

These lavender topiaries

I added these lavender topiaries from Trader Joe’s to the table.

Did you even know lavender topiaries were a thing?

They smell amazing and have the prettiest blooms on the top.

Lemons.

Wonderful lemons and this wonderful tablecloth.

The perfect way to decorate for Mother’s Day (I can’t wait for my mother to see it).

And when I filled this bowl with lemons and stood back to look at the room?

My heart smiled.

And the birds chirped and the bells rang out and the marching band started playing my song.

And I know that somewhere….

….Willie Nelson was singing 🙂
