Beach house colors — a quick note to anchor this piece for readers.
Beach house colors: Quick notes
To really understand the aesthetic of Aunt Lil’s beach house, we must first understand the woman. Who is Aunt Lil from The Summer I Found You? For starters, she’s the aunt you’ve always wanted but didn’t have growing up. She’s cool, creative, and has a signature style that’s hard to replicate. She never judges and will always listen. Her creativity has been her constant through the years, her north star. And as an artist, she sees a life full of bright hues. Her home reflects her love of color, and that comes with a desire to break a few design rules along the way. The palette of her beach house, which Dahlia inherits, reflects the colors of her beloved garden and her love of Americana design.

And yes, in my mind, if this book were made into a movie, Aunt Lil would be played by the unmatched talents of Helen Mirren. Stay tuned for a whole post of characters and who would play them. The exterior aesthetic is below; it’s on the Peconic Bay in Southold, NY. A place my husband’s family has sailed and boated for decades

I broke down the interior of Aunt Lil’s house HERE. We’ve got vintage, eclectic art, painted floors, old down sofas, checkered wingbacks, and original farmhouse sinks. Oh, and did I mention built-ins? And a big old red barn for a studio, which sets the stage for a pretty awesome meet-cute.

Now, the colors. They are a mix of traditional with pops of botanicals. She’s not afraid to mix and match and use color schemes found in nature. Because after all, no one can argue with teh beauty of Mother Nature.
