New ceiling light: a concise orientation before we get practical.
New ceiling light: Quick notes
Yesterday, I deleted one item off of my bathroom “to do” list and checked off two others. I decided to keep the ceiling white, so I went ahead and installed the new ceiling light and then I got the vanity painted.
First up, you’ll remember that I had been considering painting the ceiling in this bathroom pink. I did a couple of mockups of that when I only had two of the three rows of wall stripes painted.
The main reason I wanted a pink ceiling is because…well, I love color, and I especially love pink. But also, I thought that having the ceiling painted in a color like pink would make the new white ceiling light stand out more.
But then when I got the stripes all finished, I really loved how the walls looked surrounded by all white. Like I said yesterday, it almost gave the feeling that the walls were the artwork and the white surrounding the walls on the ceiling and trim at the top and the wainscoting at the bottom (which will be all white) created the “frame” for the artwork. I thought a pink ceiling might look like an afterthought and compete with the walls for attention.

So in the end, I stuck with the white ceiling. And that meant that I could go ahead and install this cute new ceiling light. This is the light that I bought (affiliate link), and I love it so much! I thought it was cute when I got it out of the box, but I loved it so much more once it was actually installed on the ceiling! And I really like the look of the white fixture against the white backdrop of the ceiling.

I wish I would have gotten a picture of it yesterday with the light off during the brightest part of the day. I took the picture above early this morning, and the sun doesn’t shine into this bathroom until the afternoon hours. I’ll make a point of getting better pictures once this bathroom is finished. But anyway, here’s a look at the fixture with the light turned on.

Again, that’s an early morning picture just as the sun was coming up, so the lighting isn’t great. But isn’t that a cute light? Of course I love it! It looks like a flower! 😀
But now for the decision we’ve all been waiting for me to make. What color did I decide on for the vanity? I really went back and forth on this. One moment, I would be 100% certain that I wanted green. The next moment, I’d start thinking that eggplant would be better to ground that wall design. I had both paint color on hand, and the paint color decision really was up in the air until the moment I picked up my paint brush and headed into the studio to paint the vanity. And at that moment, I grabbed the green.

Specifically, I went with this green from the wall stripes. This is Sherwin Williams Broccoflower.

Choosing the right green made all the difference in the world. Seeing that previous green, which was just slightly darker than the back entry wall color, against the striped walls almost soured me on the idea of having a green vanity altogether. That color was just too washed out and dull.

So using the right green really made a huge difference. And in the end, I think green was the right choice for me. I kept going back to a comment from one person who said a green vanity would make the room look like a garden, and the colorful stripes are like the flowers in the garden. That’s the comment that sealed the deal and made me stick with the green.
Here’s a look at the vanity color with a peek of the back entry walls. You can see that they’re different greens, but I think the look nice together. And I’m actually glad that the back entry walls and the vanity aren’t the same color. I like the variation.

Obviously, I’ll get better pictures of the whole area once I get everything cleaned up. And you can see that I have a whole lot of cleaning (and probably some paint touchups) to do on the floor. When I was painting the stripes on the walls, I spilled some paint on the floor. I’ve been absolutely amazed at how durable this floor paint is, and I’ve been able to get paint off of the floor in the past with a Magic Eraser. So my paint spill in here will really put it to the test. We’ll see if I’m able to scrub that off of the floor, or if I’ll have to add another coat of paint to the floor to cover it up.
Anyway, I’m pretty excited about the progress. Next up is the wainscoting. I can’t wait to see all of that brown wood trim painted in a clean white finish.
