I can hardly believe that our master bedroom suite is finally finished. This whole project has taken over a year to finish, and now that it’s done, I find that I want to spend all of my time in here enjoying the fruits of my labor. I had hoped to get a video tour of the whole bedroom suite yesterday, but I ran out of time. So for those of you who enjoy videos, it’s coming. But for now, I wanted to share a photo tour of the whole area in one post. I have separate posts showing more details of each individual area (the foyer, the walk-in closet with laundry area, the bedroom, and the bathroom). But today, I really wanted to focus on how the whole area flows together.
We’ll start at the entrance. This used to be a cased opening into a hallway, and in that hallway, there were four doorways — three doorways to three bedrooms, and one doorway to a guest bathroom. Now the cased opening has French doors, and the whole area is our master bedroom suite. I love that when I stand in the music room, I can not only see the foyer, but I can also get a glimpse into the colorful closet and our new inviting bedroom.
The view straight on shows off our chapel picture from our wedding day. The foyer kind of acts as an extension of the walk-in closet. Since I didn’t have room inside the walk-in closet for a place to sit down and put on shoes or a full-length mirror, I placed these items in the foyer to our bedroom suite.
And on the wall to the right is the guest bathroom, which will soon become a storage room where we can store Matt’s equipment when it’s not in use (shower wheelchair, Hoyer lift, and power wheelchair), as well as a new hot water heater, a utility sink, and storage for other household items. The storage room is the one area of our bedroom suite that still needs to be done, but I can’t work on it until we have a working guest bathroom to take its place.
The view out of our bedroom suite is one of my favorite views in our home — my colorful pixel art and the pink settee in the music room.
From the bedroom suite foyer, you can also get a glimpse into our kitchen. I should have turned the light on so you could see it better, but that’s the kitchen through the cased opening between the bookcase and the pink settee. This photo was taken with a wide angle lens, so it makes the foyer look larger than it really is.

And looking back the other direction, from the foyer you can see into the closet and the music room. Several people urged me to put a door on the closet, but honestly, I love seeing my colorful clothing. I dress the same way I decorate. Lots of COLOR!
Here’s the view straight on from the foyer into the closet. The curtains in the closet are almost the same color as the settee in the music room. I love that continuity.
From inside the closet, I get this glimpse of the foyer. As I as taking these pictures, I realized that there are two or three small finishing projects that I overlooked, so I need to go back and finish those. One of those unfinished projects is touching up the paint around the doorway on the closet side. I did a very messy job at painting the new dark teal trim that covers the edge of the grasscloth wallpaper, and then I forgot to come back and touch up the light blue paint to clean up those messy edges. Ugh. There’s always something I forget! So please very kindly pretend like the paint around the doorway on the closet side looks sharp and pristine. It will actually look like that very soon.
And now we’re back out in the foyer looking towards the closet and the bedroom.
I just love this view. I can’t imagine having a door on the closet. I love being able to see the cabinet color, the wallpaper, and all of my colorful stuff.
I know you’ve seen this view from the bedroom to the music room. I love seeing how open this area is now. It used to feel like such a closed in hallway with a door that separated the room from the foyer. And now it feels so open and so much bigger than it did before.
Standing at the side of the bed, you can see the whole bathroom, the bedroom, and into the music room.
Here’s a straight on view from the bedroom into the bathroom. The sun was going down behind our house when I was taking these pictures, so all of the light made the walls in the bathroom appear brighter than they really are. The walls are actually very similar in color to the light blue-green color in the duvet cover. I want to put some film on the glass on the exterior door for privacy and to diffuse the bright light that comes through that back door in the afternoon and early evening.
I really love this peek inside our bathroom from the bedroom, but you can see one more small project that I overlooked. I forgot to refinish (or replace) the wood transition strip between the hardwood flooring and the tile, so it’s still black from when this was our home gym with the black carpet squares. 😀 I’ll take care of that soon so that it will match the hardwood flooring.
The color of the bathroom walls in this picture is much truer to the real color. The sun had gone down quite a bit, so the walls aren’t glowing as much. 😀
I took several pictures of this view because I love it. It’s amazing, after all of these years, to finally have a pretty and functional bedroom right next to our bathroom.
I took this photo with a wide angle lens, so things are a bit distorted and disproportionate. But I wanted to get as much in one photo as possible.
This one is without the wide angle lens, and without the distortions.
And if I stand in the doorway between the bedroom and bathroom, you can see the water closet to the right of the mural wall.
Here’s another wide angle view (with distortions), but I wanted to show you the two areas where the doors into the hallway used to be. So in the bathroom (before it was a bathroom) there was a doorway into the hallway (i.e., the foyer) about three feet in from the back wall of the water closet. And then in the bedroom, there was a door from the bedroom into the hallway in that narrow area between the bedroom and the foyer. And of course, the doorway between the bedroom and the bathroom didn’t exist since these were two separate bedrooms.
I was losing daylight pretty quick as I was taking these pictures, so I should have turned on the floor lamp by the recliner. But here’s a view from the bathroom to the TV/reading corner of the bedroom.

And here’s one last picture from the bathroom showing the door in the bedroom. So for now, we have an exterior door in the bedroom and an exterior door in the bathroom. But if we’re ever able to build the addition onto the back of our house, the exterior door in the bathroom will become an interior door, leaving us only one exterior door in our master bedroom suite.
And that’s it for now! I can’t believe it’s actually finished. The whole thing has been years in the making if we count from when I started working on the bathroom. But the other areas (foyer, closet, and bedroom) have been a work in progress for over a year. It’s hard to believe they’re finished. And now, I can move on to the new guest bathroom (i.e., the studio bathroom). Once that’s finished, I’ll come back and finish out the storage closet, which is the final piece of our master bedroom suite.
