Dezeen Showroom: hand-painted, nature-inspired designs feature in British brand Harlequin’s Defined Momentum collection of fabrics and wallpapers, which intend to bring modern, layered textures into the home.
Designed and made in the UK, Harlequin’s Defined Momentum collection endeavours to capture the flows of nature, with organic shapes and intricate weaving techniques that blend matt and shine.
The Defined Momentum collection features creative patterns that reference nature
The wallpaper designs include Sedimentary, which is based on an archival artwork of an abstract, painterly landscape, with tonal strips appearing like striations in rock.
Among the fabric designs, Monolith evokes the lines of balancing-stone structures like Stonehenge, while Molten features a cell-like pattern based on lava as it pools out of a volcano.

The colour palette also evokes natural elements, with compelling combinations of calm neutrals and deeply pigmented shades of olive green, cornflower blue and mulberry red.
“Each piece, whether fabric or wallpaper, is an opportunity to express individuality in design, coordinating textures and tones for endless options in interiors,” said Harlequin lead designer Flora Daly.
Founded in the 1960s, Harlequin is known for its expressive designs and continues to manufacture in historic factories in Loughborough and Lancaster.
