Cozy winter home: a concise orientation before we get practical.
Create a cozy winter home after Christmas with warm, earthy colors, layers, textures, and scents. Tips and ideas here!
Hello cozy friends!!
It’s winter, let’s embrace it, shall we? Or maybe you are a winter lover anyway?? I mean, hey, I am sure there are a few! lol I am not, however, so whatever makes it better, I’m in.
And I think what makes it better is creating a cozy, warm environment while we suffer through the cold. (Hey, Florida, this post is for you, too, in case you want to pretend you are cold! haha)
I did this once or twice in the past, and I loved it! I’ll be honest: there are some years I just want to skip it and get my house back to normal right away. But this year, I felt the holidays were so rushed that I didn’t get to enjoy all our pretty decor like I usually do, so I left it up longer. It brought me so much joy and felt so cozy and sweet that, although I’m ready to remove the Christmas decor, I’m not ready to remove the cozy. Know what I mean??
Today I’m going to share a few glimpses of what I mean. And the kind of things I feel like you can leave up to create a cozy winter home after Christmas.

It’s another time I shared about creating some coziness after the holidays, too.
I’m going to share a few snapshots in and around our home to show the things that I leave up to create the cozy feel. After that, I’ll share some things I found to give you ideas for creating a cozy winter home yourself!
First off, if you decorated with red, I would say it’s probably best to remove that from your wintery decor. Red, to me anyway, says holidays. Greens, browns, whites, and creams say cozy winter home.
GREENERY
Add pops of greenery around your home.
Like I did on these kitchen shelves.

I removed the holiday elements and left the greenery here.
See how the greenery just feels “wintery”?? And of course, my “Winter Wonderland” sign, which I made a few years back.

You can get all the details here on that: Winter Wonderland Sign
I left the greenery here in the foyer, too.

But I removed my fave tall “Sassy Santa” and the small ornaments that were in the dish.

“Snow” covered pine cones are the perfect wintery touch.
Same thing here, I removed the ornament I had in with this bunch of pine cones.

I left the small “runner” with gold snowflakes and fluffy white material underneath.
Snowflake pillows totally scream winter and cozy to me.

A cozy throw and a little more greenery in the form of a very simple tree on the side table.

Over in the dining room, I had a large ornament in the dish with the spheres.

I removed that and left the rest. I also left the gold snowflake and white fluffy runner in here.
On our Frame TV, I will use only the “wintery” scenes, not the Christmas-themed ones, for now.

I left the greenery on the mantel, removed the stockings, the Christmas pillow below, and the holiday-style figurine on the other side.
For this area, I removed the sparkly white sprigs from the blue jar and left the twigs.

Then I removed the ornament from the shells and left the trio of wintery trees.
On the ottoman, I removed the framed “Merry Christmas” art and left the fluffy white runner with trees.

Now, let’s take a look at a few things I found to help you create a cozy winter home below.
One of the things that makes the house feel so cozy is the Christmas tree lights. You could undecorate them and leave them up too. (or you could leave them decorated, if you like, but I feel like undecorated goes along with the “not Christmas” but more wintery decor look)
So I found these trees with lights, and since I decided to remove the trees this time, I think I’m going to order some to put around the house.

This is kind of the same idea, just bigger. These could take the place of the tree itself and still give that warm glow without feeling holiday-ish.

This is a fun sign you can put up or use anywhere.

This one is great too. Adding texture is perfect for those cozy, cold months.

Get some fluffy pillow covers to cover your current ones. That’s a great (and inexpensive) way to change up your decor without investing (and having to store) new pillows.

Candles to create a cozy atmosphere.

Flameless candles are a nice option to add ambiance. And these have some fairy lights wrapped around them, too.

So, this is how you create a cozy winter home after Christmas.
Add greens, browns, and creams. Create layers, add texture, and natural elements. Soft lighting, wintery artwork, and wintertime scents that evoke a cozy space.
PIN it to save it!

I hope you enjoyed today’s post! I don’t love winter, but I sure do love a cozy space to escape from the cold. The feels, the textures, the warmth, and the wintry scents, mingled with warm lighting, create the most magical space.
Do you do this too? Have you tried it? Will you? Let me know in the comments below!
xoxo

Small note — Such a gentle approach — I really like it. Thanks for this!
Also · I agree — that’s a helpful perspective. Saving it.
