New diy series: Quick notes

You’re all probably wondering who Dahlia is and what this new DIY series is all about. Well, Dahlia is the female main character of The Summer I Found You, and since she adores anything handmade, found, or thrifted, I thought I would make a series out of it. And have a little fun in the process! Let me also say that this book takes place on the beach, so I made all the projects coastal-inspired. Think of her as the beloved fictional niece of the beloved Erica Barry from Something’s Gotta Give. When you read the book (which I hope you will), you’ll get it.

The series will be 12 days (more or less 12 weeks) of handcrafted ideas that will also double as holiday gift ideas. The theme will be Coastal Niece, a style I’ve coined because of my main character, Dahlia. These crafts/DIYs are meant to be easy & fun. With the bonus that you can do them with friends & family, maybe even have a craft night. With the holidays still a ways away, this gives you time to plan.

My goal with this series is to inspire, but also to give a glimpse into my main character and why I love her so much. Dahlia isn’t like the coastal granddaughter, coastal aunt, or coastal grandmother. She’s understated, nostalgic, and a bit of an outlier. She’s the last pick on a sports team and sometimes feels invisible. She’s an ambivert and prefers animals over people. Dahlia fancies old books and flowers because they remind her of the past and the people he once loved. It’s coffee over tea and thrifted over new any day of the week. Being on the coast is like CPR for the soul. I hope after this series, you’ll grow to love her like I do.
