The hubby ordered a coffee and cookie, but I immediately shot out the back door to find this adorable, abundant garden. Folks sat in red Adirondack chairs enjoying their coffee and pastries surrounded by sunflowers, hollyhocks, and yarrow. Herbs including lovage and lemon verbena spilled from planter beds into pathways.
I’m always jealous when I see a garden with clematis. We can’t grow it here in So Cal, but they has a purple climber adorning the path to motel rooms.
The Motel runs along the edge of the garden, where guests can step out of their rooms into this oasis. The walkway features posts adorned with containers, and climbing vines.
The back edge of the garden sported cane berries, lantana, and herbs of all sorts.
A short walk around to the back edge of the garden reveals cane berries, more fruit trees, and flowers growing wildly. And the front yard doesn’t stop. This apple tree was the first thing to catch our eye as we parked the car.

It was huge, and prolific. I wish we had time to chat with the staff more about the garden’s care. They did mention that they use the herbs in their menu, though.
If you want to stay at the motel, book early. It’s a very popular destination for summer travelers. I imagine fall would be a beautiful time to visit. They decorate for the seasons accordingly. Don’t miss Latte Da Coffee Cafe or the El Mono Motel on your travels!
